CONCORDIAPENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida men’s soccer team continues play this weekend with a scheduled Sunday afternoon match against Concordia College AT 3:00 p.m. UWF is 7-2-0 on the season, with a 2-2 Gulf South Conference mark thus far in 2015. Most recently, UWF bested Shorter 1-0 on Sunday after dropping a 2-1 decision to Lee last Friday. Freshmen contributions Freshman classmates Kameron Bethell (Navarre Fla./Navarre Fla.), Stephen Enderlin (Little Rock, Ark./Catholic High School for Boys) and Michael Starkey (Huddersfield, England/Newsome HS) have all seen regular time on the field and in the starting line-up. Bethell and Enderlin have been two focal points of the Argonauts offense, while Starkey has played significant time on the top backline in the GSC. Enderlin leads the Argonauts and all GSC freshmen in scoring with five goals on the season. Enderlin’s goal total of five and point total of 10 are both tied for fourth most in the GSC. Enderlin recorded the game-winning tally against Rollins on September 11th to push UWF to a 4-3 victory. Bethell has recorded three goals and an assist, putting him in a tie for third most points on the team. Two highlights for Bethell so far this season include a game-tying goal against Tampa in the season opener, and a goal scored off a free kick against then-No.10-ranked Christian Brothers that helped lead the Argos to a 4-1 victory. Starkey has played the second most minutes for West Florida this season and has played a major role in helping UWF generate the lowest goals against average in the conference. Oliveira climbing program’s all-time goals rankings Senior forward Felipe Oliveira’s (Kissimmee, Fla./Gateway HS) next goal will put him at 26 in his career, which will pass Jon Stefansson (1998) for ninth all-time in West Florida history. Oliveira so far this season has tallied two goals and three assists, putting him in a tie with Kameron Bethell for third most points on the team. Oliveria’s two goals on the season are both game-winning goals, which tie him for the most game-winning goals in the conference. The two-time All-GSC First Team selection has tied the lead or led the team in goals every season since his freshman campaign in 2012. Top defense in GSC West Florida defenders have limited opponents to a 0.99 goals against average, a statistic that is tops in the GSC. Four team shutouts on the season is second best in the conference, while the Argos have given up the fewest amount of shots on goal this season with 33. Defenders Michael Starkey, Allan Kuhne (Honolulu, Hawaii/Boca Raton Community HS), Soren Yuhaschek (Orlando, Fla./Freedom HS), Japhet Bitsindou (Fontenay sous bois, France/Ecole des Merlus) and Andrew Hitt (Clearwater, Fla./Countryside HS) have played the majority of time on the Argonauts’ backline. Murray’s emergence Sophomore Jacob Murray (West Palm Beach, Fla./Seminole Ridge HS) currently owns a share of second most shutouts in the GSC with three, despite playing in just four contests on the year. Although Murray’s playing time does not qualify him to rank amongst the league leaders, the net minder has posted eye-popping numbers through his first four games. With a perfect 4-0 record, Murray owns a 0.24 goals against average and a .833 save percentage. Scouting Concordia Concordia College of Selma, Alabama plays two opponents in NCAA Division II this weekend, giving the Hornets time off from its regular-season United States Collegiate Athletic Association schedule.
