first_img03Nov Rep. Cole: fight to lower auto insurance rates isn’t over Categories: Cole News State Rep. Triston Cole said he would continue the fight to lower auto insurance rates for all Michigan drivers.Cole voted in favor of House Bill 5013, which would guarantee lower rates for all drivers in Michigan – the state with the highest car insurance rates in the nation. The bill would have offered personal injury coverage options, fought fraud and abuse and reined in medical costs. The bill fell short in a vote late Thursday.“The current state of the auto no-fault insurance system is failing,” Cole, of Mancelona, said after the vote. “Everyone knows it. It’s disappointing a plan that would have brought much-needed reforms to the system was shut down.”Michigan’s costs are so high largely because it’s the only state mandating unlimited lifetime health care coverage through car insurance. The House plan allowed those currently using the coverage to keep it, and those who want it in the future to continue buying it – while providing more affordable options.“I will continue efforts to lower auto insurance rates with colleagues,” Cole said. “It’s a sad day when we vote against lifting the burden off many hard-working families.”The bill remains in the House.last_img read more
